“The first time I heard the story of Ruth and Boaz, my reaction was that of a giggly boy who understood the euphemisms the grown-ups used to both disseminate knowledge of the Torah as well as hold back on ‘les mots mal eleve” (naughty words). I sensed that something wasn’t said about what Ruth and Boaz did or didn’t do, but I was sure they did something. The painting reflects just such confusion. It’s all there, and nothing is there.”
