“As a child, Rafi was told the story of Jonah. When he asked, ‘What is a whale?’ he was told it was a large fish. So this is how he imagined Jonah, a Moroccan Jewish scholar comfortably studying in the fish’s belly by candlelight. This painting was in the second Beth Sholom Congregation show. Prints were made for patrons.”
