“It would have been nice, had I been able at some point during my lifetime to say the word ‘home’ and instantaneously conjure up an amalgam of all the good and reassuring feelings that humans associate with that word. Being no longer there, however, makes that difficult. Although the images of the sea gulls, the fish, and the white-washed walls of Essaouira were indeed soothing, the omnipresence of the Arabs in our lives was most disconcerting and took the edge off true peace of mind.” This is an abstract depiction of my birthplace combined with the imaginary concerns of a naive child — always fishing, always daydreaming.
